MIKEY Worswick has set his sights on becoming the youngest ever world kick boxing champion after landing the Commonwealth crown at the weekend.
The 19-year-old from Accrington beat Nigel Thomas in a one-sided contest in Luton to pick up his seventh major title since turning professional as a 17-year-old.
Now Worswick, who was given special persmission to turn pro by the sports governing body as a 17-year-old, wants a shot at the world title within two years.
“My aim is to become the youngest ever world champion,” said Worswick who fights out of the Kokoro Gym in Accrington. “So I am looking to be champion by the time I am 21.”
Worswick took the International Sports Kickboxing Association Commonwealth title at 75kg after beating Thomas who was the British 81kg champion in his home town.
Worswick is planning a few more fights before fighting for the European crown and, ultimately, the world title.
“I’ll fight a few times then go for the European title and then hopefuly the world,” he added.
