MARK Bunn is determined to challenge Paul Robinson for the goalkeeper’s jersey at Blackburn Rovers after signing a new two-and-a-half-year deal.

Bunn has established himself as Rovers’ number two keeper, moving ahead of Jason Brown in the pecking order, and knows he has his work cut out to dislodge Robinson from the regular starting line-up.

But that will not stop the 26-year-old from trying and he hopes such competition for places will bring the best out of both of them.

“At the moment I am really happy,” said Bunn, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield United but made his Premier League debut for Rovers at West Brom in December when Robinson was injured.

“I feel settled, living in Manchester with the family. I came in at pre-season not knowing where my future was going to be.

“It was between me and Jason Brown about who would be on the bench, but I have just trained hard and done my best, and I am delighted with how things have gone.

“It was frustrating last year but I have been enjoying this season.

“My aim is to push Paul Robinson all the way and hopefully that keeps him on top of his game.

“It has to be your aim to play. Robbo has been fantastic in goal and there is no doubt he is a great goalkeeper.

“I am just happy biding my time and if I get another chance, hopefully I can impress again and you never know.

“He has played for England and has played loads of games in the Premier League.

"He is one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the League but I will just keep working hard.”
