Blackburn Hawks got their play-off push back on track with an impressive 6-4 win away to Nottingham Lions.

And the victory was made all the more remarkable given the fact that the locals suffered a delayed journey to the East Midlands and arrived at the Ice Arena late.

They only had two minutes to warm-up and when they trailed 4-2 going into the final period, things looked bleak.

But Hawks scored four goals without reply to claim the points.

The win, Hawks’ first in six games, sees them move to within touching distance of the top teams in the English National Ice Hockey League, behind runaway leaders Whitley Warriors.

After a delayed journey down due to an accident on the M1, Hawks had just two minutes to warm up and were happy to trail by just 2-1 at the end of the first period, thanks to Sam Dunford’s strike.

It was a similar story in the second period, with Nottingham scoring twice from powerplays and Hawks pulling one back through Matt Viney to trail 4-2.

However, Hawks came battling back after the interval, with new signing Gary Dixon getting his first goal for the club and a well-deserved MVP award to cap a fine comeback.

The locals entertain Sheffield and then Fife this weekend.
