THE first weekend of this year’s Six Nations was as good as you can have.

England beat Wales to start the party on Friday night and while the quality was on the low side of high, the game ebbed and flowed meaning even non rugby fans were right on the edge of their seats.

Then came super Saturday, Ireland were poor but squeezed out Italy in Rome before the match of the weekend between France and Scotland in Paris.

France were brilliant. Flowing rugby at its best - but Scotland were also outstanding and would have put every other team in the competition to one side.

Andy Robinson has done a cracking job, so much so that many Scots have forgiven the fact that he is English - apart, of course, from when Scotland are shocking.

They are an outside bet for the title - but that bet depends on whether the French implode in their remaining games.

Whatever happens, it will be a great tournament.
