BURNLEY’S James Anderson finished with a nine-wicket match haul as England wrapped up an innings victory over the West Indies by early afternoon on the final day at the Riverside to regain the Wisden Trophy 2-0.
The hosts needed seven wickets at start of play yesterday morning – and Anderson (4-38) and Tim Bresnan (3-45) began the job in earnest.
Bresnan’s first two Test wickets came in the space of three balls as three fell for five runs in 15 deliveries shortly before lunch.
West Indies, 115-3 at start of play, needed Shivnarine Chanderpaul to shepherd the tail. But following on after the hosts had piled up 569-6 declared, they had no answer and eventually finished 176 all out – 83 runs short of making England bat twice.
