FANS voting on an exclusive Lancashire Telegraph poll want Sam Allardyce to succeed Paul Ince as the next manager of Blackburn Rovers.

The former Bolton boss is the clear leader, registering 46 per cent of the 1,000 votes, more than twice as many as second-placed Roberto Mancini.

The result comes six months after Allardyce polled just 10 per cent when Rovers were looking to replace Mark Hughes at the helm.

Bookmakers also reported heavy support for Allardyce, with BetFred punters backing him in from 6-1 to 2-1.

Former Blackburn boss Graeme Souness has also attracted plenty of interest in what has become a two-horse race with bookies.

Online firm bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said: “We've seen a couple of bets for Roy Keane, but the majority of bets placed have either been for Allardyce or Souness.

“Both men are currently available, experienced and they could be at the top of John Williams’ list - especially as the chairman is reportedly looking for a quick appointment.”

One betting firm linked to a national newspaper suspended bets on Allardyce last night.

Other candidates in the betting include Alan Curbishley at 8-1, 12-1 shot Avram Grant, Burnley boss Owen Coyle at 16-1, Roberto Mancini at 22-1 and Gerard Houllier at 20-1.

Alan Shearer is a 33-1 outsider to land the job.
