LANCASTER City crashed to a miserable 5-2 Giant Axe defeat to Skelmersdale United on Tuesday night.
City, with high hopes for the UniBond Division One North season after Saturday’s 3-2 win at Harrogate Railway Athletic, got off to the perfect start as Mike Rushton made it 1-0 after just three minutes.
But Skelmersdale led 2-1 at the break and went 4-1 ahead with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second-half.
Lee Dodgson’s penalty reduced the deficit – but United scored a fifth to sink the Dolly Blues, who now must pick themselves up ahead of Saturday’s Giant Axe clash with FC Halifax Town.
