GIANT goalkeeper Joe Lewis made a more than welcome return to the Morecambe team at Grimsby on Saturday - and his headgear was the main talking point at Blundell Park.
The 20-year-old, who is on loan with the Shrimps from Norwich City, suffered horrendous facial injuries in a clash of heads with Rotherham's Chris O'Grady at Rotherham on October 20.
He needed 20 stitches in his head and suffered a problematic shoulder injury in the clash - and there were initial fears that his season could have been over.
But the England under-21 youngster is fighting fit and sporting a skull cap.
"I will have to wear it for a while but I don't think it will matter much," says Lewis.
"I've had knocks on the head before and they haven't really bothered me."
The headgear was no problem to Lewis as the Shrimps won at Blundell Park and boss Sammy McIlroy smiles: "It was great to see the big fella back.
"He has fought back well from a terrible injury and it is a testament to the medical staff here and at Norwich.
"I am just disappointed that we didn't keep a clean sheer for him at Grimsby."
The loan spell is due to finish at the end of December but McIlroy would like to keep Lewis until the end of the season.
