LANCASHIRE Thunder are subscribing to the London Bus theory when it comes to Kia Super League wins in that you wait ages for one to come along and then two come at once.

But England spinner Alex Hartley has a slight variation on the old saying.

“Hopefully we can get more than two,” she said. “If we can get another six or seven, that would be ideal!"

Hartley was speaking ahead of today's televised clash with her old team Surrey Stars at the Kia Oval (2.30pm), which the Thunder head into having won two games on the spin.

After losing their opener against Loughborough at Southport last weekend, they went on to beat Yorkshire at Emerald Headingley on Friday and last year’s finalists Southern Vipers at Liverpool on Sunday.

The Thunder had only won one previous fixture in two years of the KSL - and none last year - but now hopes are high they can hold their position in the top three and qualify for Finals Day.

“The win against Yorkshire the other day really helped,” said left-armer Hartley, who has returned to the Thunder for this campaign.

“We had a bit of momentum, and we managed to keep it going. What a feeling.

“We’d never beaten the Vipers. They’re a strong side, and it felt great. We were definitely the better side on the day and deserved it.”

The good news keeps coming for Hartley and the Thunder, who are set to name India T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur in their squad for the first time following visa problems.

“She’ll come into the team - if picked,” laughed Hartley. “That really strengthens our batting, and we’re looking forward to the game.

“Surrey have got a strong side. I’d say they have a stronger batting line-up than bowling line-up. If we can get a few quick wickets, we’ll really be in the game.

“We’ll have a long discussion about the different plans we have for them - what fields to set, where to bowl at their batters, all that kind of stuff.

“They’ve obviously got Sarah Taylor, who played here and has swapped teams with me. She’ll know about our girls, I’ll know about theirs. It’s going to be a real contest.”

A feature of Lancashire’s last two games has been how a host of players have stood up with notable personal contributions, including Hartley herself.

She claimed 3-19 against the Diamonds and 1-27 against the Vipers and has six wickets in all so far.

The 24-year-old forms part of a potent bowling attack top heavy on spin, highlighted by Emma Lamb taking 4-17 with her off-spinners against the Vipers as they defend 138.

She added: “Myself and Sophie Ecclestone got wickets at Headingley, and it was nice to see Emma in the wickets as well as the girls with the runs. Things are being shared around.

“Sophie’s a fantastic bowler, and you know exactly what you’re going to get. She’s very consistent, chilled and doesn’t let the pressure get to her. She can bowl anywhere in the game, which is great.

“Emma's our secret weapon, perhaps not so secret now.

“She bowled the first over in the first game at Southport, and she’s a fantastic bowler too. We’ve still got spinners who haven’t bowled yet. Harmanpreet bowls, Amy (Satterthwaite) does as well.”
