CHORLEY hope their Readers T20 triumph last weekend can be the catalyst to bring more silverware to Windsor Park.

Andrew Holdsworth’s side celebrated their first major piece of silverware since 2000 when they overcame Fleetwood in the final and club officials hope it will lay foundations for future success.

Committee member Oliver Smith said: “It was absolutely massive and it has been a long time coming.

“It is the first first-team trophy in 18 years and even though there has been a bit of a drought but it was great.

“We took a decent following down for finals day and Chorley people will get behind the cricket team when they are turning up and winning.

“We would like to go all the way in the league cup too and we want people to come and get behind us.”

And Smith felt the T20 success was reward for the club’s performances in the competition.

He added: “It was absolutely deserved and we are looking to build on the performance in the league cup at the weekend when we face Penrith.

“We have got some youngsters coming through and they are flourishing.

“There have been a few 18-year-olds who have all been chipping in at the top of the order.

“The last trophy we won was back in 2000 and we want to use this as the platform and we want more success.

“We are fourth in the league and we want to have a good end to the season. We feel we are building for the future.”

Andy Holdsworth’s side beat Netherfield by 35 runs in the semi-final before overcoming Fleetwood by seven wickets to bring home the silverware.

Smith added: “We were going in as the underdogs against Netherfield but Andy promoted Alex Howarth and he impressed with 56 which included five fours and four sixes and then Wian Van Zyl added 28.

“Gayan (Maneeshan) added another 30 and we got 201 but if we had have been a bit more greedy we could have got 230 but when we got to 200 we knew we were in a game.

“Netherfield got off to a flier in their powerplay but we never let them go on and we took wickets at key times.”

The final turned out to be a comfortable victory for Chorley as Maneeshan’s unbeaten 37 saw them chase down 101.
