SETTLE skipper Tom Davidson says his brother’s record breaking Ribblesdale League knock has not yet sunk in.

Will Davidson smashed 180 off just 82 deliveries in last weekend’s victory at Barnoldswick.

The knock included 14 fours and 12 sixes as the visitors piled up 440-8 in 45 overs and secured a 223-run victory to maintain their lead at the top of the Section A table.

And the captain believes his side can post a similar score between now and the end of the season.

“I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” said the skipper of his brother’s top order knock. “I live with him and I said to him the next morning, ‘you do realise you scored 180!’.

“He usually bats at eight or nine and just tees off but we decided to open with him and it paid off.

“It was an incredible innings and an amazing day. Everything went right for us but we have been saying for a few weeks that we are capable of that and I wouldn’t rule out us posting another big score, maybe not that big but we will see.

“I think Saturday was the first time we have had all of our strongest XI out and we knew we were capable of a big score.

“We have a lot of batting strength and bat a long way down and if one of us gets it right, like Will did, then we are capable of putting up big numbers.

“The wicket was great at Barlick and they made 200 plus in reply.

“We have to try and back that up now.”

Settle are setting the pace in the league as they bid to defend their crown and travel to Whalley tomorrow before a Ramsbottom Cup semi-final clash at Salesbury on Sunday.

“We want to back up that win now,” said Davidson. “If we lose to Whalley then it won’t mean as much.

“The cup semi-final is a big game, Salesbury have been going well and their pro is having a great season but hopefully we can get him cheaply and get the win.”

The innings last Saturday saw records tumble with Settle setting the highest league total and the highest aggregate total while Davidson posted the third highest amateur league score of all time and the highest league amateur score. He also broke the club senior batting record while the total was also a club record.

Elsewhere this weekend, Oswaldtwistle Immanuel, second in Section A, entertain struggling Earby while Read host Padiham.

Section B leaders Cherry Tree face Brinscall in a top of the table clash with Ribblesdale Wanderers hoping to take advantage of one of the leading pair slipping up when they host Feniscowles.

The day’s other games see Baxenden travel to Barnoldswick and Salesbury visit Euxton.
