LANCASHIRE captain Liam Livingstone felt his side missed the injured Joe Mennie as their One-Day Cup campaign ended in defeat to Roses rivals Yorkshire.

Blistering centuries from Adam Lyth and David Willey kept Yorkshire on course for knockout cricket with a record-breaking win over Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.

The Vikings set a target of 380 and won - by 16 runs with an over remaining - for the fourth time in seven matches to move third in the North Group, although the hosts gave them a scare.

Livingstone and Keaton Jennings hit 79 and 69 respectively as Lancashire reached the 25-over mark at 215-2 before falling to 363 all out, including 21 needed off the last two overs with two wickets left.

Lancashire were out before play started but if Yorkshire beat Northants at Headingley tomorrow, when Joe Root is available, they would secure qualification.

Their total was their highest ever List A score against county opposition although Lancashire skipper Livingstone felt his side did not the heights in the field.

He said: “It was a great game of cricket. On that pitch, we obviously weren’t happy with the way we fielded. We were a long way below par. We got put under pressure, and those two (Lyth and Willey) played really well.

“We have an inexperienced side, so the younger boys will learn from that.

“Considering we played with one out-and-out seamer, it was tough at times.

“We got ourselves into a winning position and couldn’t quite get over the line.

“So it’s disappointing, but we are pretty happy with the way that we’ve fought right until the end, which is nice to see.”

Mennie missed the game as a precaution and Livingstone felt the Aussie, who has impressed in his debut year with the Red Rose, could have made a difference.

The skipper added: “It was just us crying out for someone to do what Joe Mennie has done all competition.

“But there’s no point in risking injury with the amount of games he’s played. It wasn’t frustration with the lads, just with the options we had, and it was hard to bowl spin to the short boundary to two left-handers with the wind.

“It’s a bit disappointing, but we showed fight. That’s the main thing.

“It’s exciting that we haven’t played to our potential yet and we’ve looked a very good side. Looking forward, we have an explosive batting order, and it’s good to see.”
