Lancashire opener Keaton Jennings has been recalled to the England squad for the second Test match against Pakistan starting on Friday.

The 25-year-old has been rewarded for the fine form he has shown in Lancashire colours and replaces Mark Stoneman for the game at Headingley.

Jennings returns to the Test squad for the first time since August last year, when he played in the series victory over South Africa.

Since joining Lancashire at the start of this season from Durham, the left-handed batsman has averaged 43.79 in the Specsavers County Championship Division One, accumulating 314 runs and scoring two centuries.

England will report to Leeds on Wednesday and will be aiming to draw the series having lost the first Test at Lord’s by nine wickets.

National selector Ed Smith said: “Keaton Jennings showed a strong temperament in scoring a hundred on his Test match debut against India in December 2016.

“Keaton has found good form in county cricket this season, including three centuries in his last seven innings (two in the First Division of the County Championship, one in the Royal London One-Day Cup).

“Mark Stoneman misses out at Emerald Headingley.

“Mark has experienced a disappointing start to the 2018 season and had a difficult Test match at Lord’s.”

Jennings scored 112 in his first innings as a Test match batsman in India in December 2016.

His last test came in August 2017 where he helped England to a 177 run victory over South Africa in Manchester.

The hundred he scored on debut remains his only one to date in Test match cricket.

In all he has played six matches, averaging 24.50.

For Lancashire, he scored three successive centuries, including 136 against Nottinghamshire in a Royal London Cup game, as well as making two further scores of over 50.

He has played 102 first-class matches in his career, with 16 hundreds and an average 34.09.

Jennings will open the batting with Alastair Cook at Leeds as England named an otherwise unchanged line-up following their defeat at Lords.

Chris Woakes will be eyeing a recall after being the man left out for the opening test in which England were soundly beaten.

Stoneman, aged 30, is dropped having averaged 27.68 from his 11 Tests.

Jennings will join an England squad which already includes Lancashire team-mates James Anderson and Jos Buttler.
