CHORLEY'S Nick Dougherty made a disappointing start to the French Open after finishing his first round on two-over-par.
The 25-year-old, who needs a top five finish to secure automatic entry to this year's Open at Carnoustie, struggled on the opening day at Le Golf National.
Dougherty finished the first nine level after a birdie on the par five ninth cancelled out an earlier bogey on the seventh. But his back nine got off to the worst possible start with bogeys on 11 and 12.
And although he birdied the par 3 16th, his round ended in disappointment with a bogey down the last.
