CHORLEY golfers Sean Nicholls and Tom Stuart have been selected to play for England Schools in the international match against Scotland in September.

They both recorded high finishes in Monday night's English Finals at Walsall and for Nicholls, a member of Shaw Hill, his performance provided further evidence of his burgeoning talent.

He won his first event in the Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit on Saturday in the Calvert Trophy at Ashton and Lea, shortly after being picked by Lancashire for the Northern Boys' Championship at Hesketh on July 18.

Nicholls fired rounds of 69 and 72, for a one shot advantage over Adam Andrews, from Ashton-in-Makerfield.

And it was a good day for Shaw Hill for apart from Nicholls, club-mates David Holt and Gareth Aspen were also in the top 12.

Nicholls will be joined at Hesketh by Hall o'th' Hill's Andrew Palmer and both have also been chosen for the county boys' match against Cheshire on Monday at Chorlton.

Palmer's clubmate, Stuart, is in that line-up as well as the Under-16 side to face Yorkshire at Ashton-under-Lyne on July 30.

Additionally, his older brother Sam, an England player, and Shaw Hill's Jon Hurst, will turn out for Lancashire in their Northern Counties League showdown with Cheshire at Wallasey on July 7.
