BLACKBURN'S push for promotion continued with the best victory of the nine match winning streak after out-playing and over-powering second placed Wigton.

That fact the Cumbrian high-flyers were still in the game up until the closing stages was down to the fact that they have the best defensive record in the league.

A number of missed opportunities and some last-ditch tackling meant that in-form Blackburn only crossed the line once.

Wigton took the lead with a penalty after a rare foray in the Blackburn half during the opening period.

But Blackburn's concerted pressure paid off when number eight, Jordan Pearson scored under the posts and Paul Bleasdale converted.

Blackburn dominated the second half but squandered chances to put the game beyond their visitors.

Bleasdale settled nerves with a penalty before a rare break out of defence ended with Wigton winning a penalty which was converted to make it 10-6.

But Dino Radice slotted over a drop goal to seal victory.

Blackburn, who are just three points behind Wigton but with two games in hand, have a crunch game at leaders Aldwinians on Saturday.
