ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman could be forgiven for thinking a curse had been placed on his goalkeepers.

New loan signing David Martin lasted just four minutes on his debut against Lincoln on Saturday before going over on his ankle and being replaced.

The 21-year-old former England youth player was recruited from Liverpool on Friday afternoon on a month's loan deal, but returned to Anfield for treatment and is expected to be out for at least four weeks.

Coleman said: "It's a blow because you don't know how good he's (Martin) going to be. I think it must be a world record, the fact that somebody has gone off the pitch on his debut so early without touching the ball.

"It is frustrating but life has dealt us a lot of bad blows this season and that's just another one.

"He's gone back to Liverpool and we'll have to speak to them once he's fit again."

That leaves the Reds with Polish stopper Przemyslaw Kazimierczak, although his one-month loan deal from Bolton is set to run out this week, and 19-year-old Martin Fearon as cover for the injured Ian Dunbavin, who is likely to remain sidelined with a knee injury for another three or four weeks.

And that means there have been an amazing 16 goalkeepers registered by Stanley since they were promoted to the Nationwide Conference.

But Coleman was in philosophical mood when he analysed the situation.

He said: "We're speaking to Bolton this week (about Kazimierczak) and we'll see what happens there.

"It's just one of those things.

"The position has been a bit of a problem for us, but there's not a lot we can do about it.

"We've just got to get on with things."
