Alviro stars but Lancashire hit back

FORMER Enfield professional Alviro Petersen made 155 but Lancashire hit back with the ball against Somerset yesterday.

Resuming on 312-3, Somerset seemed set for a huge score with Petersen, who was at Dill Hall Lane between 2004 and 2006, looking to build on his overnight 109.

And the South African looked cultured as he reached 155 before falling to Simon Kerrigan as the Red Rose put the brakes on the visitors at Emirates Old Trafford.

In the end Somerset were 420 all out with Kerrigan (3-94) the pick of the bowlers, while there were two wickets each for Tom Smith, Kabir Ali and skipper Glen Chapple.

However, Lancashire’s reply got off to a shocking start when Paul Horton was trapped leg before by Alfonso Thomas from the 11th ball of the innings.

Worse was to follow when Andrea Agathangelou departed to Peter Trego for two.

Alex Davies reached 12 and Ashwell Prince eight when the rain came with Lancashire struggling on 22-2 in the 10th over.

* Luis Reece made just 15 for Lancashire seconds at Glamorgan yesterday.
