ACCRINGTON Stanley chiefs are remaining positive in their bid to raise £308,000 to pay off the club’s tax bill.

At the half-way point of the Save Our Stanley campaign, backed by the Lancashire Telegraph, the club and supporters have raised £90,000 of the money they need, just under 30 per cent.

To raise this amount of money in just a few weeks is a great effort and everyone who has helped should be applauded.

But with just four weeks left to go to hit their target, Stanley really needs to pull out all the stops.

Chief executive Rob Heys has described the shortfall as simply “a lull” in the fundraising drive.

He is keen to point out that lots of events are in the pipeline including fundraising matches against Blackburn Rovers and US side Austin Aztex, managed by former Burnley manager Adrian Heath.

A sportsman’s dinner is also among plans soon to be announced and the club’s directors are currently discussing what contributions they will donate to the cause from their own pockets.

Let us hope that as the deadline looms the money will continue to pour in and the target will be reached, saving this proud and historic club.
