The millionaire behind the new Darwen Academy, Rod Aldridge, has revealed that the school will bear his name - a moved attacked as egotistical.' OK, it is a bit egotistical but so what? The guy is putting in £2million into the project.
If he wanted to call it the Rod Aldridge Is Brilliant School' I'd be tempted to let him.
But the fact is, he doesn't. The new super school will be named Darwen Aldridge Community Academy,' which is quite subtle and a suitable thank-you to Mr Aldridge, I reckon.
Plenty of schools throughout history have been named after the person who helped their conception, and, like it or not, money is a major issue in getting it off the ground.
Union bosses and opposition councillors should lay off and let him have some glory.
