A STUDENT from Lancaster is to make her second bid to win a world sporting crown.
Sonia Povey has earned a place in the Triathlon world championships in Vancouver.
The 28-year-old (pictured) has been preparing for the event, since January - with a gruelling regime of 15 hours of cycling, swimming and running each week.
Sonia is completing a PhD in insect immunity at Lancaster University environment centre and juggles her training schedule with the demands of university life.
In order to compete in the event, Sonia - originally from South Africa but now living in Lancaster - had to finish in the top four at one of four qualifying events.
She says: "I competed in last year's world championships in Hamburg, where I came 30th out of about 100, so I was quite pleased with that, especially as last year was my first full year of competition."
Beside her athletic ambitions, Sonia hopes to become a sports physiotherapist.
