THIEVES stole a car with defective brakes from outside a Morecambe garage.

The blue Peugeot 306 disappeared from Birkett's Place in the resort sometime after 7pm on Wednesday.

The owner of the £400 car had taken it there to have the brakes repaired - but found the garage closed.

Sometime on Thursday a woman tried to scrap the vehicle at Morecambe Metals but drove off when challenged to produce the logbook.

And now police have warned that the vehicle is in a dangerous condition.

Detective Sergeant Sean Carthy, of Lancaster CID, warns: "This car is potentially lethal and presents a danger to members of the public or any offending driver.

"I would appeal to anyone with information about this to contact police to prevent possible serious injury."

The car's registration number is N438 SVK and anyone with information can contact police on 01524-63333.
