MY introduction to life as a Blackburn with Darwen councillor was the Mela within two months of my election in 2004.

The people of Feniscliffe wasted no time in finding my phone number and letting me know that, in terms of traffic and motorists' behaviour, all hell had broken out.

In subsequent years parking has been managed better but the inconvenience, for those living near the park, has been a problem.

I have attended Arts in the Park on a number of occasions, and trying to enjoy the concert surrounded by those who had over-indulged on beer was no picnic.

I have campaigned since 2004 to get these events out of Witton Park. The town centre will be the right place for them.

The weather will be less of a factor and it is Blackburn's chance to show all parts of the town can come together for a summer party.

It will be an opportunity for our Asian youth to show the ethnic majority it is possible to have a great time without getting legless and spoiling the enjoyment of others.

COUNCILLOR BRIAN GORDON, Meadowhead Ward.
