I KNOW I won't be alone in wanting to pay tribute to boxing coach Trevor Thompson, a friend of 29 years, who can only be described as a local hero to many (LT, February 21).
I am sure many like myself, are shocked and saddened by his tragic death.
He was for years trainer for the local boxing club for Darwen.
I admired the fact that he did more than anyone I know to encourage local kids to put their energy into training and getting fit, keeping them off the streets and out of trouble.
My eldest boy, like many others, was fortunate enough to receive his words of wisdom and encouragement, helping turn young into respectable young men.
For this I am sure many parents like myself are grateful that someone cared enough to make a difference.
It's not just his loved ones who will suffer this loss, it's many people of Darwen.
MANDY BENSON, Darwen.
