SOME good news reaches meand I am already prepared for the usual do-gooders writing to complain about this week's column because they will not like certain aspects of it.
At last, at long last, people in the area seem set to celebrate England's national day in a couple of weeks - and April 23 will be a cracker.
I have no doubt the usual suspects will moan and say it is racist to celebrate our patron saint just because the flag of St George has been hijacked by the far-right loonies of the BNP and the like.
The flag is nothing to do with those crackpots - and you should certainly be allowed to fly it without fear of some politically correct barmpot running to a police station demanding action.
Neither should the flag be linked with the English abroad groups who make some holiday destinations unpopular with normal folk. We should be proud and happy to fly it and celebrate our great country.
The Welsh celebrate St David's Day, the Scottish celebrate everything and virtually everyone on the planet celebrates St Patrick's Day, even if their only connection with Ireland is to have once glanced at a pint of Guinness.
I applaud everyone who has events planned for Wednesday, April 23 I will be out celebrating the day, just as I do on Lancashire Day on November 27.
We are English and should be proud of that fact.
