A SECOND university league table has named Lancaster as the best in the North West.

Just a week after being placed tenth nationally and top in the region by The Independent newspaper, Lancaster has again topped a media table.

The Good University Guide in The Guardian, published last week, has seen Lancaster rise 10 places from last year to be ranked 12th nationally and top in the North West.

The Guardian guide is aimed at helping prospective students choose both universities and courses, using feedback gathered from a survey of undergraduates alongside university statistics to come to its ratings.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings says: "This is a great result for Lancaster. It shows that students benefit from being taught by some of the best academics in the UK and that the university's investment in new facilities has made the campus an excellent learning and living environment.

"Lancaster University is also committed to helping create jobs and wealth in its region and I hope that being ranked as the top university in the North West in a national league table will help raise the profile of our local area."
