A NEW breed of rose is being been named after Heysham following its success in the Britain in Bloom competition.

The new hybrid rose variety will be called Spirit of Heysham' and will be available to buy across the UK by autumn next year.

Ten per cent of cash raised by the sale of the pink blooms will be pumped back into the village, with cash going to the heritage centre and St Peter's Church.

Angela Sykes, of the Heysham in Bloom committee, says the village is very lucky'.

She told the Citizen: "We all know that the village is a special place and the this lovely pink rose will really reflect the spirit of the people who live here."
