A PINT-sized drinking venue has been launched on a north Lancashire railway station platform.

The Snug Micro Pub, at Carnforth Train Station, is only 300 square feet in size but the owners have given it an atmosphere of its own.

Their new venture aims to provide punters with a drinking experience that has disappeared from many venues.

It has no television, no music, no games machines, no lager and no spirits.

Gregg Beaman and wife Julie have been inspired by a simpler style of pub and have focused on their four real ales, soft drinks and 16 bar stools.

Mr Beaman, 52, said they wanted their pub to be a haven for those seeking quiet chatter and quality ales.

“It has a relaxing atmosphere,” said Mr Beaman. “It is a place to come to escape the hurly burly of usual pubs. We felt people wanted a more traditional ale house pub, so we’ve got four real ales on at any time.

“They are constantly changed for people to try new types. “As soon as one finishes we put a new one on.

“On one particular evening we had 35 people in the micro pub. “There’s a bit more space at the front for more people when the weather is good.”

The former medical charity employee, who is originally from Manchester, said they had been inspired by The Butcher’s Arms Micro Pub near Cantebury.

The pair read of the smallest freehouse in the country and decided to set up their own in Carnforth.

The Snug Micro Pub opens from Tuesday to Saturday from 12am to 2pm and 5pm to 9pm.

Its owners said Town and Country Ladies Fashionwear, which was previously located at the site, had relocated.
