NEW digital technology in speed cameras means East Lancashire drivers will see the number of mobile sites increase.
Lancashire County Council and police figures showed that just 30 out of 290 sites are operational at any one time.
They are rotated to meet priorities.
Highways chief Coun Tim Ashton said cameras which cannot be shown to be reducing accident figures will be scrapped under the new RoadWatch scheme.
However, a move from wet film to digital means the number of mobile sites will actually increase.
Vali Birang, head of sustainable transport and safety, said: “We are working with the police to review the available technology for enforcement of speed limits in the future.
“At the same time we are moving towards a more flexible and targeted approach to enforcement with Lancashire RoadWatch, which will make more use of mobile cameras to respond to community concerns about speeding and focus on locations where we know speeding causes injuries.”
