Ivor Novello winner Iain Archer seems able to turn any story into a pop melody.
When It Kicks In is about growing up amidst the violence of Belfast, and what a cracking song it is.
Archer's former band Snow Patrol would be proud of a release like this.
It's a song of explosions and destruction and he has conveyed this with his music: hard strumming guitars and thumping drum beats set the scene perfectly.
I'm looking forward to listening to the album, due out on the 18th September - if it's more of the same then it's sure to be a hit.
The singer-songwriter genre seems to be getting more populated day by day.
Each musician adds something that little bit different to the field, as does Archer.
There is a slight touch of Arcade Fire in When It Kicks In: the intensity, the drive and passion are there.
The song is a collage of past events that were terrifying at the time, but looking back now make Archer livid.
One thing is for certain; when he looks back at this release he'll have no need to be livid or terrified.
