BURNLEY student Sarah Thorne has been dubbed one of the brainiest in Britain.

The 16-year-old scored 100 per cent in all her GCSE maths modules, putting her among the best in the country.

The former Blessed Trinity RC College pupil also clinched an impressive eight A*’s and three A’s in her GCSEs and a B in AS level Local government and politics studies usually taken by college students.

Andy Montrose, assistant headteacher, said: “Sarah is a hard working young person who deserves all her success for always putting in a 110 per cent.

“Sarah has not only done phenomenally well in maths but in all subjects across the board.

"When it came to prize-giving at the end of the year, all her teachers wanted to give her an award for attainment.

“Sarah is a very shy and modest girl but she is has proved she has achieved one of the best results in the country.

"There won’t be many more who has achieved what she has.

"The whole school is very proud of her.”

Sarah is now studying five A-Levels at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form in Burnley.

She said she takes after her dad Peter, an IT support worker, for her academic success.

She said: “It feels amazing to know I’ve done so well. I really didn’t expect it.

“I think I take after my dad who is also good at maths.

"I would put my success down to lots of hard work and brilliant teachers.

“I’m really just looking forward to settling into college now and hopefully one day working with animals.”

A spokesman for The Assessment and Qualification Alliance, who set the exams, said: “It is a notable achievement for any student to attain 100 per cent in all their modules and one of which they can be very proud."
