FAMILIES were forced to flee their homes today after a blaze broke out in an attic.
Nine houses in Lowerhouse Lane, Burnley, were evacuated when fire ripped through the roof of a mid-terrace property at around 11.50am.
Around 36 residents, including youngsters in their pyjamas, had to leave for five hours as the firefighters tackled the blaze.
A family-of-four, including two children, who live in the house escaped without injury.
Officers closed the road while crews used an aerial platform ladder to tackle the flames, which badly damaged the roof.
Firefighters used one hose reel and an aerial ladder platform from Accrington to survey the damage and remove lose tiles from the roof.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the blaze from inside.
