GAINS by Labour in Carnforth and by the Conservatives in Warton increased the two main parties’ representation on Lancaster City Council.
Paul Gardner beat Coun Bob Roe, independent, to take Carnforth while Alycia James gained the seat vacated by Jean Dent.
However, no political force has overall control of the 60-member council despite Labour seats going up from 13 to 24 and Tories from 11 to 16.
Morecambe Bay Independents lost five seats, Greens four, Free Independents two and Liberal Democrats, who had five councillors, were wiped out.
The Tories held Silverdale, Kathleen Graham taking the seat of Coun Sarah Fishwick, who has retired after 12 years.
Tory councillors re-elected included Val Histed, Bolton-le-Sands, Roger Mace, Kellet, and Peter Williamson, Upper Lune Valley, while independent Coun Keith Budden and Coun Paul Woodruff, Free Independent, retained Bolton-le-Sands and Halton respectively.
Sixty councillors were up for election from 28 wards, and there were also parish elections.
The Labour Party fielded the most candidates, followed by the Conservatives and the Greens, with the Liberal Democrats almost pipped to the post by the Morecambe Bay Independents.
