A DRUNKEN woman slashed her partner with a piece of glass from a broken mirror and inflicted a deep wound.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Rachel Tovey, 38, left Bernard Tennant with a gash on his arm, with partially-severed tendons visible. He had smashed the mirror.
Tovey, who had a history of self harm, had threatened to cut herself, and the victim had “invited” her to injure him instead.
Tovey, now a new mum, said to have limitations and a “very low IQ”, had earlier admitted wounding.
Tovey, of Maurice Street, Nelson, was given a two-year community order, with supervision.
Sentencing, Judge Jonathan Gibson told her what she had done was serious enough to justify a prison sentence, but added: “I have formed the view yours is an unusual and exceptional case.”
Philip Holden, for Tovey, said she had significant problems, but when she had received a community order in the past, she had not breached it.
