A DARWEN firm has pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety laws after a worker was crushed to death.

At Hyndburn Magistrates Court, managers of Brookhouse Tooling Ltd, of Holme Mill, admitted breaching their duty to 50-year-old Allan Sanderson, who died after being crushed by heavy tooling while moving it in the factory in December 2008.

They also admitted breaching their duty to employee Gerald Powderley who was left with extensive injuries to his legs in the same incident.

The Health and Safety Executive brought the case against the 50-year-old company. It was adjourned for sentencing at Preston in March.

It is usual in cases such as this that a fine is handed to companies based on their financial status.

Brookhouse is a major aerospace supplier, with contracts for the Joint Strike Fighter and Goshawk T45.
