Before demolition an average home there could be picked up for just over £30,000, according to property experts.

The Bright Street land has been the subject of a few false starts, with now-abandoned plans for extended gardens, for residents in New Market Street and Mason Street, delaying the current project.

The latest proposals for Bright Street have been drawn up by the borough council’s development partner, PEARL2, and if approved will be built by Nelson-based Barnfield Construction.

The homes will be arranged in three blocks due to the hilly nature of the site.

Funding for the Bright Street works was secured previously under the former Regenerate Pennine Lancashire initiative.

Speaking ahead of the public exhibition, a PEARL2 spokesman said: “This is an opportunity to see the design proposals for the new housing on the cleared Bright Street site in Colne and to give comments and views to the developer team.”

The open session will take place from 3pm to 7.30pm or people can contact the council’s housing regeneration team with views on 01282 661041.

The Bright Street plans are one of a number of housing projects being undertaken in Colne by PEARL2 (Pendle Enterprise and Regeneration Ltd), the borough's development partner.

Further work is underway for replacement housing for Walton Street, Waterside, and Bunkers Hill, close to the town's railway station.
