BACUP Conservative Club will unveil its new premises on March 4.

The club, which opened in January 1984 in Irwell Terrace, has moved to the Pioneer Buildings after a disagreement with its previous landlord.

Rossendale MP Jake Berry is set to open the new Alma Street club, which was once used as a boxing club, with a ceremonial gold key.

The club will be officially opened at a private function for members and guests at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile bid is being made to revive the fortunes of the 117-year-old former Conservative Club building.

Property company PDQ has submitted a licensing application for the building, in Irwell Terrace off St James Street.

Under the Waterfoot firm’s proposals, the club would open until 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, 12.30am Mondays to Thursdays and midnight on Sundays.
