IT seems unthinkable now - but just 30 years ago millions of people used to settle down in front of the TV to watch variety show the Black and White Minstrels on BBC.

The show was eventually scrapped as political correctness kicked in - but fans can roll back the years with a visit to Lancaster's Grand Theatre early next month.

A musical journey down memory lane with Memories of the Black and White Minstrels' features the soloists, medleys and costumes from the original BBC TV series.

Bob Hunter, Margaret Savage and Les Want (right) are on stage for a classic celebration of musical magic with full supporting cast.

The sequined top hats and costumes will be on the St Leonard's Gate stage on Saturday, September 9, at 2pm and 7.30pm. Ticket details are available from the box office on 01524-64695.
