STUDENTS are hounding out cowboys in the construction industry by following accredited courses at college.

Sir Michael Latham, the chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board, handed over certificates to Accrington and Rossendale college students for their success.

Local companies have also been taking part in a national pilot scheme to help experienced workers gain qualifications.

Steve Palmer, executive director for the Learning and Skills Council, said: "The construction industry often carries a bad name because of workers who do not know their trade.

"The college is enabling students of construction and those already in the industry to gain valuable qualifications that prove they are fully competent at what they do."
