HYNDBURN is the only borough in Lancashire not to have a sixth form centre, a counil has revealed.
Lancashire County Council is due to discuss the lack of A-level courses at a meeting next week.
Accrington and Rossendale College dropped A-levels from its programme of study because of a lack of demand.
County councillors will consider if the lack of facilities has discouraged pupils from taking up courses elsewhere and whether public transport is good enough to send students to alternative locations.
A report to the council says more than 440 pupils are having to travel outside the borough, but that St Christopher's High School in Queens Road West is contemplating opening a sixth-form centre.
The education overview and scrutiny sub-committee is set to determine on Tuesday if it can help solve the problem.
