MEMBERS of a Darwen community group are rapidly becoming computer buffs thanks to a neighbourly gesture from a local brewery.
The Darwen Prime Time Club, which caters for the over-50s in the town, has received a donation from the Daniel Thwaites Charitable Trust, and has bought a state-of-the-art computer along with a licence and full internet and e-mail access. On behalf of the trust, which is based at the Blackburn brewery, Barbara Donohoe officially handed over the equipment to volunteer treasurer Margaret Dwyer.
Julie Astley, community development officer at the centre, said: "We have around 60 people wanting to use the computer and members of the youth club are coming in to help the older citizens.
"The interest is so great we have a waiting list. It's wonderful that the brewery is able to help the community like this."
