CRIME prevention bosses in Ribble Valley have called a public meeting about a proposed all-weather sports pitch in the centre of Clitheroe.

The Ribble Valley Crime and Disorder Prevention Partnership, spearheaded by Ribble Valley Borough Council, wants to site the pitch at the St Michael and St John's Playing Field in Lowergate.

The meeting has been called so that residents and interested parties to have their say on the matter.

Ribble Valley Borough Council policy development officer Bill Alker said: "The partnership has identified a lack of informal recreational facilities in the town and St Michael and St John's seems a logical location for the proposed pitch.

"We have called the meeting to progress the matter and gauge public opinion. Residents are warmly invited to attend, listen to the proposals and express their views."

The crime and disorder reduction partnership, established in 1998, is run by organisations including Ribble Valley Borough Council, the police, probation service, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, schools and health professionals.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday, February 17, at 7pm, in St Michael and St John's School Hall, Lowergate. Everyone is welcome.
