LEIGH RMI are looking for their new look strikeforce to deliver the goods, and fast.

The struggling Railwaymen gave debuts to new boys Carl Alford and Kris McHale against Farnborough Town on Saturday, but still drew a blank.

RMI expect the two frontmen to take some of the pressure off David McNiven, who has banged in 17 goals this season, but has often acted as a lone striker.

Alford has vast experience and made a big impact with Stevenage and Yeovil among his many clubs. He played a handful of games for Gainsborough Trinity this season before Leigh moved in for him.

McHale, aged 24, was signed from Unibond Premier League outfit Burscough. Manager Phil Starbuck said: "It is difficult for both these players. Carl has a lot to do in his fitness, but he fights and gives us a strong presence.

"Kris did okay in his first game. We brought him in for his aerial ability in the box, but he did not get the right service. He will be judged on whether he can can get on the end of crosses, but he couldn't on Saturday because there were not enough quality balls in. He has worked hard, but when you are coming into a team that is struggling, it is going to be difficult."
