TENANTS and residents on a blighted estate are invited to have a say on plans to bulldoze their homes.

A meeting to discuss the future of Tulle Court in Prestwich has been arranged for Monday (January 26) at Prestwich Methodist Church in Bury New Road.

The meeting starts at 6.30pm and representatives from Bury Council and Manchester Methodist Homes Association will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns.

Tulle Court and Kersal Close, both flats developments, had become targets for vandalism, crime and nuisance tenants.

Their negative reputation had grown so much over the past 12 months that Bury Council had trouble letting the flats and many of the homes were left empty.

Housing bosses invited MMHA to put forward suggestions and it seemed the most cost-effective option to sell both sites for redevelopment.

It is thought that Tulle Court, which is situated in a conservation area, would benefit from demolition. It was suggested that MMHA could rebuild Tulle Court more aesthetically, and a new layout would solve access and security problems.

Only 27 of the 54 homes at Tulle Court are currently occupied, including three properties that have been bought by tenants.

As well as the meeting, staff from housing services will visit individual families. Following the meeting, a steering group will also be set up with representatives from the council and MMHA.
