WALSHAW met Spring View at Sycamore Road in a league fixture just six days after defeating them in the Cross Cup and the visitors seemed determined to avenge their defeat of the previous weekend.

Professional, Sarkar, showed the way in making a hard-hitting 74, and Spring View were happy with a substantial first innings total of 204.

Walshaw set about their chase with relish and they fancied their chances with all their top batsman in good touch.

Professional Jon Fielding (64) led the way, with support coming from Kelly (48), Faulkner (35) and Collins (32*) as the visitors overhauled the total with five overs to spare.

Meanwhile, ELTON, once again, had a mixed weekend, with a victory against Roe Green in the Lancashire Knockout, but were knocked off the top spot in the League.

The Leigh Laners arrived at Standish in confident mood, fully expecting victory, but left with harsh words ringing in their ears.

Standish batted first, but Elton made the early running with paceman Peter Kay taking three wickets.

However paid man Crookson and his partner Edelston dug in and both struck vital knocks of 60.

Eventually, after poor bowling by Elton's usual standards, Standish managed to post a commanding total of 199.

In reply, Elton looked to be in a comfortable position with Chris Read and in-form Dexter Fitton at the crease.

However, when Read was dismissed just short of his half century, Elton lost regular wickets, but pro Fitton remained, so they still had a chance.

The Leigh Laners progressed to the point where they needed 25 from 3 overs.

All looked lost when Fitton was removed for 89, though. However, Stephen Filkins and Ross McAuley set about repairing the damage and took Elton to two balls left, needing four to win. But after a desperate run out, Elton suffered their first league defeat of the season.

On Sunday, Elton obviously learnt the lessons of Standish when they met Roe Green in the Lancashire Knockout.

Elton were always in control of this tie.

Peter Kay struck early to remove the Roe Green opener, and they never really recovered.

This was a stark contrast to the previous day's performance, as even without spin king Mark Goddard (on league duty), Elton bowled economically and with predatory instincts, rolling the Salford side for 120.

Elton replied strongly with Read and Rashid Riaz who took the score to 30-0.

After Keegan had been to the wicket to play an array of exciting strokes, Elton had broken the back of the target. Controlled play by Riaz and flashing boundaries from Peter Kay and Peter Lomax finished the game in style. The only downside of the game was when Steven Lomax was hospitalised after taking a wonder catch in the deep.

Elton play a strong Read side in the next round. Ribblesdale League side Read beat Norley Hall to progress.
