RESIDENTS of Burnley Wood are taking part in a community clean-up.
Members of Burnley Wood Action Group will be working with local people, community wardens, police support officers, the area caretaking team and the probation service to clean up the alleyway behind Sussex Street, which has recently been gated to help prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.
As well as cleaning, they will also be painting the back yard walls and around 25 volunteers are expected to turn up to lend a hand.
Roy Jones, a Burnley Wood resident, said: "The idea of the clean-up and paint project is just what the area needs and was supported by all the residents."
Peter Ellerton, another resident and community volunteer, said: "I will be putting on my overalls to get stuck in and work with others for the benefit of the community."
The Sussex Street clean-up project is one of three that will be carried out in back streets where alley gates have recently been put up this summer.
Other clean-up targets include in Marlborough Street and Kingsland Grove.
