CHILDREN are being invited to banish the summer holiday blues by taking part in Burnley Council's Shout scheme.

Shout is a holiday activity programme for youngsters aged 11 and over.

This year's programme will run from Monday, July 19, to Friday, August 6.

It will offer a range of sports and activities including horse riding, ice skating, canoeing, water sports, snow boarding, tubing and skateboarding.

There will also be the chance to have swimming lessons or attend a safe cycling course.

Anyone interested in taking part can pick up an application form and a Shout programme of activities from the reception desk at the Council office at 18-20 Nicholas Street, in Burnley, or from the reception desk at the Thompson Centre, in Burnley.

Young people wanting to take part in the programme must be registered beforehand and should provide a passport-sized photograph of themselves for their Shout membership card.

Registration takes place at the Thompson Centre on Saturday, June 26, 9.30am to 2.30pm, Monday, June 28, 4-6pm, Tuesday, June 29, 4-6pm and Wednesday, June 30, 4-6pm.

Youngsters can also register at Daneshouse and Stoneyholme Community Centre, on Thursday, July 1, 4-7pm, Padiham Town Hall, on Friday, July 2, 4-6pm, and the council office reception at 18-20 Nicholas Street, from Monday, July 5, to Friday, July 16, 10am-noon.
