A TRIO of rugby world champions will join a golf club's 25th birthday celebrations to raise money for charity.

Iain Balshaw, Kyran Bracken and Will Greenwood have pledged their support to the event at Stonyhurst Park Golf Club, Hurst Green, on Friday, July 9.

Other celebrities who have expressed an interest in the charity day include Bill Beaumont, Jack Simmons, Norman Prince, David Walsh, Trevor Cherry and Martin Henfield.

A group of golfing MPs have also declared themselves available.

Chairman of the golf club Richard Greenwood, 62, said: "The aim of the day's events is to raise as much money for charity as possible and to celebrate the silver jubilee of the golf club.

"In 25 years the course has been transformed into a beautifully manicured nine-hole Ribble Valley gem and we want to thank the Stonyhurst College for making the course available to us."

After a day of golf competitions, with each team consisting of three players plus a celebrity, there will be a champagne reception and banquet evening.

Individual hole sponsorship is also available for £200 per hole.

Mr Greenwood, who is also Will Greenwood's dad, said: "We have set ourselves a daunting challenge to raise a five figure sum -- but with the players support we hope to reach our target and have a fantastic day in the process."
