AS an ex-Royal Navy member who attended the commemorative D-Day service at the War Memorial on June 6, I was surprised by the lack of public interest.
Council leaders didn't even acknowledge the event. Not even a wreath. None of the cadet forces attended, yet I thought they would have wanted to say thanks for the gallant efforts of their Second World War "comrades-in-arms". And though this is the garrison town of the Lancashire Fusiliers, not a hackle was on show. Shame on you.
We remember these lads every month with the service prayer at our meeting and have done so since our formation 50 years ago. I thank the few who did attend the June 6 service.
NEVILLE CAIN,
Heycroft, Whitefield.
