BURNLEY held its first community regeneration roadshow in a bid to reach residents in the heart of their neighbourhood.

The event on Saturday was hailed an overwhelming success, with hundreds making the most of the first in a series of shows.

Held at the Burnley Wood One Stop Shop, officers from Burnley Council joined a variety of organisations to promote community regeneration in the area and to inform residents about the latest news and services they are planning to deliver.

It was organised on the back of a new report, commissioned by the Town Centre Partnership, which sets out a vision for Burnley over the next 20 years.

A new university, railway station and a major programme of public art were all suggestions to boost the town.

Coun Denis Otter, the council's executive member for regeneration, said: "The event proved to be an excellent opportunity for people to find out what's going on in their neighbourhoods.

"There are many people in Burnley who are working hard to create a better town for everyone and this type of event only helps us to all come together to reach the people that need our help the most."

Representatives from the council's Elevate team and regeneration and economic development unit were on-hand to answer questions.

A number of community projects that offer support, grants, advise and training were also present, including Burnley's Fire Reduction Team, the council's energy efficiency officer, Victim Support and Burnley Credit Union.

The next roadshow will be on Friday, October 1, at Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Community Centre, from 2.30pm.
